Ph.D., Philosophy, Johns Hopkins University
I specialize in early and late modern European philosophy, with a research focus on Kant鈥檚 theoretical philosophy.
I have published in the following journals: Analysis, Journal of the History of Philosophy, History of Philosophy and Logical Analysis, Kantian Review, Studi Kantiani, and Studies in the History and Philosophy of Science.
Past publications discuss Kant鈥檚 views on the explanatory relation between judgments and conceptual content; unconscious representations; consciousness and representations in non-human animals; and the biological concept of organisms.  Relatedly, I also have a publication on the technical vocabulary that 18th century German philosophers after Leibniz (including Kant) used for talking about and classifying mental representations.  Current work builds on this to address additional topics in Kant鈥檚 philosophy of mind and metaphysics.
Abstracts of publications are available here:
I have taught extensively across the philosophy curriculum, both historical and contemporary, and enjoy introducing students to the study of philosophy.  Recent advanced undergraduate courses include: epistemology, philosophy of mind, metaethics, philosophy of social and political language, ancient Greek and Roman philosophy (Presocratics to Augustine), early modern European philosophy (Descartes to Kant), Kant鈥檚 Critique of Pure Reason (1781/87), and 19th century European philosophy (Kant to Nietzsche).
