MSG Alex Sturm
Military Science Instructor
MSG Alex Sturm has been a Cadre member of the USF AROTC program since August of 2024. He is originally from Massachusetts. He joined the United States Army (U.S. Army) in April 2009. He graduated from Infantry One Station Unit Training (OSUT) in July 2009. MSG Sturm has three children: Jordyn-Lynn (14), Olivia (12) and Thomas (5).
Deployments
MSG Sturm deployed to Afghanistan in support of Operation Enduring Freedom from January 2011 to January 2012. His second deployment to Qatar was from April 2015 to November 2015 in support of Operation Spartan Shield. He participated in multiple Pacific Pathways missions to various locations, including the Philippines, Fiji, and New Zealand. He has participated in multiple Combat Training Center rotations at the National Training Center (NTC) and the Joint Pacific Multinational Readiness Center (JPMRC).
Assignments
During his career, MSG Sturm has served as a rifleman, Grenadier, M240B Machine Gunner, Radio Telephone Operator, Team Leader, Squad Leader, Bradley Section Leader, 91Âé¶¹ÌìÃÀapons Squad Leader, Platoon Sergeant, Light Infantry Company First Sergeant and Instructor. He has been assigned to D Company, 2nd Battalion, 2nd Infantry Regiment at Fort Knox, Kentucky; A & B Company, 1st Battalion, 8th Infantry Regiment, Fort Carson, Colorado; The Non-Commissioned Officer Academy, Fort Drum, New York; The United Nations Command Security Battalion – Joint Security Area, Panmunjom, South Korea; B & C Company, 2nd Battalion, 27th Infantry Regiment, Schofield Barracks, Hawaii.
Military & Civilian Education
MSG Sturm is a graduate of the following military education courses: Infantry OSUT, Basic Leader Course, Advanced Leaders Course, Senior Leader Course, Master Leader Course, Common Faculty Development Instructor Course, Sexual Harassment Assault Response and Prevention (SHARP) course, Master Resilience Training (MRT) Course, Jungle Operations Training Course, Air Assault Course, and Combatives Level 1 & 2. MSG Sturm is currently working to complete his bachelor's degree at Saint Leo University.
Awards
MSG Sturm’s awards include the Meritorious Service Medal, Joint Service Accommodation Medal, Army Accommodation Medal (4), Army Achievement Medal (6), Master Combat Infantry Badge, Combat Infantry Badge, Expert Infantry Badge, Jungle Tab, Air Assault Badge, Senior Army Instructor badge, Basic Army Instructor Badge, Norwegian Foot March Badge, German Armed Forces Proficiency Badge and The Order of Saint Maurice. His Unit awards include the Meritorious Unit Citation and the Army Superior Unit Award.
