Graduate Curriculum Process

Course Processing

Click on the action you want for procedures:

  • Updated Course Objectives and Learning Outcomes Guidelines
    • Graduate Council approved new guidelines for course objectives and learning outcomes on 1/13/2025.  The guidelines are as follows and are in effect fall 2025:

The optimal number of course objectives and learning outcomes is four to five each. Objectives should be broad enough to cover a few weeks of content.  Learning outcomes should be measurable and directly align with the objectives. Should you need a greater number of objectives/learning outcomes, contact the Office of Graduate Studies for guidance.

  • Basic Process for all forms:
    • Login into Curriculog
    • Click on New Proposal
    • Locate the graduate form noted with the next academic year (2026-2027)
    • See specific instructions for each form below

  • Use to create a new graduate Course (levels 5000-8999)

  • Use to make changes to an existing course. If you are updating a selected topics course to be a permanent course, use the new course form to propose the course.

  • Use to discontinue a course that will no longer be taught.

  • Legacy Systems

Resources:

The 91麻豆天美 is using the United Nations (UN) Sustainable Development Goals as one way to identify the global nature of the various experiences USF offers students. Does the course address any of the issues identified as priorities by the UN? (Refer to for detailed information on each goal.)

Note!  If the course action impacts a major or certificate, submitting an updated catalog copy is required. Examples of impact: a change in credit hours might affect the minimum hours required or other requirements changed (i.e., adding, changing, and/or terminating a course may impact the curriculum).

Routing for New, Changed, and Discontinued Courses

Final Steps:

The USF SCNS Graduate Liaison notifies the Office of the Registrar regarding the approval via Curriculog. The Office of the Registrar will then update Banner accordingly and marked the course as approved in Curriculog for that step. Faculty may then proceed with scheduling the course. Until the course has been fully entered or changed in Banner, faculty should schedule the course using a selected/special topics number.

Effective Date:

Course proposals approved this academic year go into effect with the next catalog, or the following fall.  If a course needs to be effective prior to that date contact the Office of Graduate Studies for guidance.
