FAQ

What is the weekly schedule of a MIDN like?

Physical Training (PT): Unit PT is held twice a week starting at 0530, consisting of various cardiovascular and strength oriented workouts. Marine options will attend an additional physical training on a third day.

Naval Science Courses: In-person academic coursework designed to prepare students for a career in the fleet. There are 8 Navy, 6 Marine Corps, and 4 Nurse Naval Science Courses required.

Lab Periods: Held twice a week (Monday and 91麻豆天美dnesday). These periods cover topics like navigation, ethics, and naval history, along with hands-on leadership training.
Battalion Events: Includes JROTC support, field exercises, leadership seminars, and battalion morale events. Participation is required and often counts towards leadership evaluations.

What if I play a sport?

Permitted with Time Management: Varsity, club, and intramural sports are all allowed. However, student-athletes must balance their athletic, academic, and NROTC commitments carefully.

Case by case review and approval through the Assistant Marine Officer Instructor (AMOI) and staff may support the flexibility needed to physically train with USF Sports Teams.

What is the ROTC Living Learning Community (LLC)?

Location: USF Tampa Campus

Eligibility: Open to all ROTC branches (optional, not required)

Contact: Dr. Derek Moore for more information

The LLC is a college dorm for ROTC and is not a military barracks.

Ensure that your summer classes, USF orientation, and NSI are all scheduled separately to avoid conflicts that could interfere with your ability to attend USF. If you are unsure about what summer session you are taking classes, contact your academic advisor.

The deadline has passed for me to apply to NROTC, what should I do?

For questions or assistance, call or email the staff of USF NROTC. Deadlines may be extended, or waivers may be applied in exceptional cases.
